He that Loves a Rosy Cheek
He that loves a rosy cheek
Or a coral lip admires,
Or from star-like eyes doth seek
Fuel to maintain his fires；
As old Time makes these decay,
So his flames must waste away.
But a smooth and steadfast mind,
Gentle thoughts, and calm desires,
Hearts with equal love combined,
Kindle never-dying fires：---
Where these are not, I despise
Lovely cheeks or lips or eyes．

真美是柔情似水，
真愛(ài)是心心相��；
這才能把人生的火焰點(diǎn)燃，
千古不滅，萬(wàn)世長(cháng)存。
沒(méi)有美的內心世界，
外表的容顏不值分文。
托馬斯·卡魯(Thomas Carew1595—1654)英國詩(shī)人 愛(ài)美之心人皆有之。但美并不只是外表的容顏,更重要的`是內在的心靈。這首詩(shī)表達了詩(shī)人對美與愛(ài)的獨特思考；前一小節是反面的鋪墊,后一小節是精切的妙語(yǔ)。 其中 “真美是柔情似水，真愛(ài)是心心相螢的詩(shī)行是思想的凝練, 也是詩(shī)的旨趣所在。
