　　In the Song Dynasty (宋朝) there was a joker called Sun Shan (孫山).

　　宋朝有一個(gè)很幽默的人，他叫孫山。

　　One year he went to take the imperial examination, and came bottom of the list of successfulcandidates.

　　有一年他去參加考試，公布名單時(shí)他是最后一名。

　　Back in his hometown, one of his neighbor asked him whether the neighbor's son had also passed.

　　回到家，他的.鄰居向他打聽(tīng)自己的兒子考得怎么樣。

　　Sun Shan said, with a smile:"Sun Shan was the last on the list. Your son came after Sun Shan."

　　孫山笑著(zhù)對鄰居說(shuō)：“孫山考了最后一名，你兒子的名字還在孫山的后面呢�！�

　　The people used this idiom to indicate failing in an examination or competition.

　　In the Spring and Autumn Period (春秋時(shí)期,770-476 BC), in the State of Qi there was a man who always let his imagination run away with him.

　　春秋戰國時(shí)期，杞國有個(gè)人喜歡胡思亂想。

　　One day he even worried that the sky would fall on his head. He was so worried that he could neither eat nor sleep.

　　一天，他竟然擔憂(yōu)天會(huì )塌下來(lái)，地會(huì )陷下去，自己無(wú)處存身。這個(gè)人越想越害怕，便整天愁眉苦臉，坐立不安，睡不好覺(jué)，吃不下飯。

　　Later, someone persuade him that his fears were groundless.

　　后來(lái)，有個(gè)人就去開(kāi)導他，那個(gè)杞國人聽(tīng)后，才放下了心。

　　This idioms satirizes those who worry unnecessarily.

　　A man of the state of Zheng wanted to buy a pair of shoes.

　　從前，鄭國有個(gè)人想買(mǎi)雙鞋。

　　He measured his foot and put the measurement on a chair.

　　他量好了自己腳的尺碼，把它放在了椅子上。

　　When he set out for the market,he forgot to bring it along.

　　可當他趕往市集時(shí)，卻忘了帶量好的尺碼。

　　It was after he had found the pair he wanted that this occurred to him.

　　他要買(mǎi)鞋時(shí)，才想了起來(lái)。

　　"I forgot the measurement", said he.

　　He went home to get it. But when he returned, the market had closed and he did not get his shoes after all.

　　"Why didn't you try on the shoes with your feet?" He was asked.
