這是中國射箭在奧運會(huì )史上的第一枚金牌。這也是中國代表團在本屆奧運會(huì )上獲得的第21枚金牌。
張娟娟在這以前，先后遇到了“夢(mèng)之隊”的選手朱賢貞和尹玉姬。尹玉姬是12箭世界記錄的保持者，她曾在射箭世界杯土耳其站的'比賽上以12箭19環(huán)的驚人成績(jì)打破了當時(shí)的世界紀錄。但是張娟娟發(fā)揮了她優(yōu)異的成績(jì)，以106-101和115-109成功普級，將兩位韓國選手打敗。
