從北京出發(fā)，不過(guò)一百多里就來(lái)到了長(cháng)城腳下。這一段長(cháng)城修筑在八達嶺上，高大堅固。長(cháng)城就像一位巨人，伸展開(kāi)雙臂，人們好像在這位巨人的手臂上行走一樣。
我站在這位巨人的手臂上看，遠處的景物一目了然。在遠處的群山上，樹(shù)木長(cháng)得蔥蔥籠籠。原來(lái)這長(cháng)城還是個(gè)放大鏡哩!
單看這數不清的條石，一塊有兩三千斤重。那是沒(méi)有火車(chē)、汽車(chē)，也沒(méi)有起重機，就靠著(zhù)無(wú)數的肩膀無(wú)數的手，一步一步抬上這陡峭的山嶺。
在此，我想說(shuō)，我們的先民在極其貧乏的物質(zhì)條件下，以最原始、最簡(jiǎn)單的工具才完成了這前不見(jiàn)頭，后不見(jiàn)尾的萬(wàn)里長(cháng)城!
這樣氣魄雄偉的工程，在世界歷史上是一個(gè)偉大的奇跡!
