Saying Good-bye to Cambridge Again
Very quietly I take my leave
As quietly as I came here;
Quietly I wave good-bye
To the rosy clouds in the western sky.
The golden willows by the riverside
Are young brides in the setting sun;
Their reflections on the shimmering waves
Always linger in the depth of my heart.
The floating heart growing the sludge
Sways leisurely under the water;
In the gentle waves of Cambridge
I would be a water plant!
That pool under the shade of elm trees
Holds not water but the rainbow from the sky;
Shattered to pieces among the duck weeds
Is the sediment of a rainbow-like dream?
To seek a dream?
Just to pole a boat upstream
To where the green grass is more verdant
Or to have the boat fully loaded with starlight
And sing aloud in the splendor of starlight.
But I can’t sing aloud
Quietness is my farewell music;
Even summer insects heap silence for me
Silent is Cambridge tonight!

此詩(shī)寫(xiě)于1928年11月6日，初載1928年12月10日《新月》月刊第1卷第10號，署名徐志摩�？禈�，即英國著(zhù)名的劍橋大學(xué)所在地。1920年10月—1922年8月，詩(shī)人曾游學(xué)于此�？禈驎r(shí)期是徐志摩一生的轉折點(diǎn)。詩(shī)人在《猛虎集·序文》中曾經(jīng)自陳道：在24歲以前，他對于詩(shī)的興味遠不如對于相對論或民約論的興味。正是康河的水，開(kāi)啟了詩(shī)人的心靈，喚醒了久蟄在他心中的詩(shī)人的天命。因此他后來(lái)曾滿(mǎn)懷深情地說(shuō)：“我的眼是康橋教我睜的，我的求知欲是康橋給我撥動(dòng)的，我的自我意識是康橋給我胚胎的�！�(《吸煙與文化》)
1928年詩(shī)人故地重游。11月6日在歸途的中國南海上，他吟成了這首傳世之作。這首詩(shī)最初刊登在1928年12月10日《新月》月刊第1卷10號上，后收入《猛虎集》�？梢哉f(shuō)“康橋情節”貫穿在徐志摩一生的詩(shī)文中，而《再別康橋》無(wú)疑是其中最有名的一篇。
此詩(shī)作于徐志摩第三次歐游的歸國途中。時(shí)間是1928年11月6日，地點(diǎn)是中國上海。7月底的一個(gè)夏天，他在英國哲學(xué)家羅素家中逗留一夜之后，事先誰(shuí)也沒(méi)有通知，一個(gè)人悄悄來(lái)到康橋找他的英國朋友。遺憾的是他的英國朋友一個(gè)也不在，只有他熟悉的康橋在默默等待他，一幕幕過(guò)去的生活圖景，又重新在他的眼前展現……由于他當時(shí)時(shí)間比較緊急，又趕著(zhù)要去會(huì )見(jiàn)另一個(gè)英國朋友，故未把這次感情活動(dòng)記錄下來(lái)。直到他乘船離開(kāi)馬賽的歸國途中，面對洶涌的大海和遼闊的天空，才展紙執筆，記下了這次重返康橋的切身感受。
不過(guò)當時(shí)的徐志摩留下的是英文版的《再別康橋》，當時(shí)是一位不知名的中國人翻譯過(guò)來(lái)的。
